Brain2 BT tried to update to 3.4.086 via bluetooth. The update failed and now appears to be stuck at the bootloader, however an update always fails.

When connected via micro usb to the PC the red LED comes on solid after 4 seconds and the unit is detected by the PC. Starting the software it will find the unit in bootloader mode and say the firmware must be updated. I've had this happen before with other units and was able to update them no problem.

However with this one when I click the "Upload Now" button it will go to the Firmware progress screen and then pop up a box that says "The Firmware update process cannot start due to a Communication problem between the Flight Control Unit and the software". At the same time the progress bar for "Initializing" will count to 100% and then everything stops. If I click on on the pop up error box the software exits. I've tried this over and over many times and with different computers and USB cables(that all work fine with my other units).

I've attached a picture of the error, you can also see the serial # and bootloader versions. This unit was working fine before the attempted firmware update.

I've tried the jumper to force the bootloader, the red LED still turns on after 4 seconds and the same error is present. Is there some firmware you can provide or a reset sequence to get the new firmware loaded?

brain2 program error

1.7 is the bootloader version, not a firmware version. 1.7 is the current bootloader in all Brain2's I have.

My bad I wasn’t even thinking.  Insert foot in mouth.  I just glanced at number in the pic.

Have you tried to update after disconnecting everything from the flight control unit (Receiver, ESC, all servos, etc.)?
Have you tried using another PC (sometimes installing new programs, new drivers are installed that can have strange behavior with some unit and not with other)?

Nothing is connected to the flight controller.  As I mentioned several computers have been tried, all with the same results.

@sdraper I have exactly the same problem. Everything was fine until firmware version 3.4.158: messages appear saying that the PC has difficulties connecting to the unit, it is not possible to download the flight history, it cuts off halfway (the unit makes a beep)... So I had to revert to version 3.4.149, which is the last that seems to work fine. Could you help me?

It could be various causes.
No message appears indicating the possible cause of the problem?
If you are sure that the USB cable does not have false contacts and is not defective, the first thing to do is to completely uninstall the Windows app from the PC using the Windows Control Panel, => Apps.
Then verify that your PC has all the latest updates installed (Windows Update).
Then to download from the Downloads section of our website, the installer of the latest version of our Windows app and install it from scratch.
Then run the app after first closing all other programs that might be running on the PC.

That's what I've done for several times. I don't use the USB cable, I do it via Bluetooth. It's a Brain 2 BT. The messages that appear say there are troubles to communicate with the unit, or simply, in the case of downloading data, the unit beeps, stops downloading and closes the app. I've also tried it with different computers, and always with the latest version of the app and Windows up to date. It's clear that the problem is with the firmware, since it works perfectly with one version, 3.4.149, and fails every time I update to a more recent one. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Windows app several times, and I've also manually uploaded several different higher firmware versions, and the problem repeats itself over and over again. There must be a new issue introduced after version 3.4.149 that makes the unit work bad. What else can I try?

When large amounts of data need to be transferred and the data is important (as in the case of a firmware update), we recommend doing this in wired mode using a USB cable because during a lengthy data transfer in wireless mode using Bluetooth, the data may be affected by external disturbances generated by other Bluetooth devices (Bluetooth mouse, Bluetooth keyboards, Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth speakers, Bluetooth Smart TVs, Bluetooth-enabled Smartphones, Bluetooth-enabled tablets, etc. etc.).

Those who have experienced firmware update problems in the past by doing it wirelessly, have ALWAYS solved them by doing the update in wired mode.

That said, we have updated all the flight controllers of our models to the latest Alpha, then Beta and then Release versions of the firmware 3.4.186 without any problems ever occurring.

Our beta testers have upgraded their flight controllers to the latest Beta and then Release versions of the firmware 3.4.186 and have not reported any problems with the upgrade.

From our servers we see that despite the fact that many people have gone on holiday without being able to take their models with them, and despite the great heat in many parts of the world discouraging the desire to go out in the sun and fly, 3,912 flight controllers have already been updated with the latest firmware.

With the exception of your problem, we have not received any other reports of problems with the 3.4.186 firmware update that was released seventeen days ago.

This thread you reopened and linked to instead of writing a new thread, is from 2022, two years ago, refers to firmware version 3.4.086, thirteen versions ago, and the user had already solved his problem some time ago.

It is therefore practically impossible that there are problems in the latest firmware 3.4.186, because in that case we would have received thousands of reports in addition to yours.

If you continue to have problems even after updating via USB cable, then you should send us the configuration file of your flight controller ("Save config. to file ..." in the "File" menu in the top left-hand corner and follow the instructions in the message that appears for diagnostic purposes).

Could you also tell us what part of the world you are in? Thank you.

Thanks for your advice, I will try to do it another time, later, using the wired method, because it is installed in a scale model and I have to disassemble the main rotor to access the Brain unit (that's why I bought the BT model). This is going to be a difficulty for me every time I have to update the firmware...

I will report back when I do the test.

I am in the countryside, near Madrid (Spain).
